From One Memoir to Neilsen Storyworks

For years, AFTER SURVIVAL™ was simply a story I knew I needed to tell.

Now, after years of writing, rewriting, remembering, and sometimes wrestling with experiences I had not thought about in decades, it is finally nearing completion.

What I did not anticipate when I began writing was that one memoir would eventually lead to something much larger.

That journey led to the creation of Neilsen Storyworks, a company Randi and I are proud to own together, built around a simple belief:

Every life has stories worth preserving.

It also led me to create the AFTER SURVIVAL™ Legacy Reflection Journal, a companion designed to help others reflect on the experiences that shaped their lives, record the lessons they have learned, and preserve those stories for the people who come after them.

Over the past several months, I have also been learning what it means to build the business behind a book.

Publishing. Distribution. Branding. Photography. Fulfillment. Marketing. A website. All of the pieces that eventually have to come together if a story is going to make the journey from a manuscript on a computer to something another person can hold in their hands.

Somewhere in that process, I realized Neilsen Storyworks could become more than the company publishing my memoir.

It could become a place built around the idea that stories matter because lives matter.

AFTER SURVIVAL™ will always be where this began. It is my story of survival, faith, family, loss, forgiveness, accountability, choices, consequences, and the life that followed a childhood accident that should have ended everything.

But the Legacy Reflection Journal began asking a different question:

What about your story?

What experiences shaped you?

What lessons did life teach you that your children or grandchildren may never know unless you take the time to preserve them?

Those questions have become an important part of what Randi and I hope Neilsen Storyworks can become.

There is still work ahead, and there are still plenty of things I am learning as we build this one piece at a time.

But we are getting close.

Soon, AFTER SURVIVAL™ will no longer be something I have spent years writing. It will be something I can finally place into another person's hands.

And Neilsen Storyworks will begin the next chapter of its own story.
